A win-win hybrid working situation for employers and workers

Hybrid working is projected to help organisations save approximately US$11,000 per year for every employee, as reported by Business Times.

Workspace service provider IWG highlighted the above in their latest trends forecast white paper for 2022 and noted that there was increased and accelerated adoption of the hybrid working model as businesses take the chance to reduce overheads. Companies can downsize their workspace as offices no longer have to accommodate all employees at the same time, resulting in lower corporate real estate footprints to increase profit margins.

The estimated US$11,000 savings come from increased productivity, lower real estate costs, reduced absenteeism and turnover, and improved disaster preparedness. Employees also may be able to save between US$600 to US$6000 a year by working from home half the week, resulting from reduced commuting, parking, and food costs. 11 workdays per year is saved from working from home as there is no need to commute to the office half the time.

Businesses can capitalise on the hybrid working trend by providing employees with access to satellite workspaces that are not at the head office. This permits businesses to contract or expand directly in line with the number of employees they have rather than taking out expensive long,rigid office leases. The lower corporate real estate costs also mean lower utility costs, cleaning bills, and office equipment fees.

Hyper flexibility will be an expectation in 2022 and beyond as people will start looking elsewhere for a job if companies do not offer flexible working. Besides, working from home half the week and a reduction in business travel help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions significantly.

 

With requests for Flexi-work arrangements becoming a must-consider for firms when employees request it, we should begin making a transition as a society to prioritise working from home as the default work arrangement unless necessary.
