A 4 day work week and higher flexibility is pushed for by Singapore workers

A study conducted by Indeed revealed that about 88 percent of Singaporean workers  (4 in 5) prefer to have a four-day workweek with the same pay as more than 50 percent of professionals are working beyond the 44-hour workweek standard. 63 percent of workers are also considering working less this year.

The senior marketing manager of Indeed SEA and India also said, “Singapore workers are known to work some of the longest hours in the world. But the pandemic seems to have worsened this situation, and remote working arrangements have blurred the boundaries between work and personal space. However, the workers would like a better work-life balance and to spend more time with their families or exercise.”

The study also revealed that the possibility of fewer hours for reduced pay was also unavailable for more than half of the workers here. 47 percent also agreed to continue working in the same job with fewer hours if money was not an issue, and a further 60 percent cited family time as the reason for wanting to work less, followed by physical health and relaxation. Approximately 57 percent expected new job offers to rise while 37 percent were confident that 2022 would be a good year for the economy.

The top 3 employment benefits desired by Singapore workers are better work-life balance with enhanced flexibility, better financial compensation, and a less stressful work environment. If companies are open to having a 4 day work week for their employees, it could be one of the better ways to retain talents and improve employee engagement and productivity. Reeracoen Singapore has also previously shared about how to achieve a productive 4 day work week to better roll out this initiative in your companies.
